When it comes to choosing the right type of cutter for your CNC project, the material dictates every time. While a cutter may work well with one type of material, it might not always be the best choice for others. In fact, there are cutters specifically designed for certain types of materials, designed to last longer and perform more effectively than general-purpose cutters.
TANGENTIAL KNIVES
The Tangential Knife comes with a selection of easily interchangeable blade cartridges that allows ultimate versatility for using creasing wheels and 45-degree blades, as well as the more standard vertical blades. Full directional control of the blade allows straight edges, sharp corners, and all radiuses to be cut cleanly and accurately. Watch a video of a tangential knife cutting foam board.
Tangential Knife Cartridge for 45° BladesThis tangential knife cartridge is specially designed to hold knife blades at a 45° angle and can be used to create ‘V’ cuts in materials such as Foam Board, Xanita, Reboard, and others. |

Tangential Knife Cartridge for Saber BladeThe saber blade is a robust and multi-purpose tool ideal for cutting hard materials such as laminates, Styrene, Sintra, and similar up to about 1/16” thick. |

Tangential Knife Cartridge for Box Cutter BladesThe box cutter cartridge holds straight, multi-purpose blades suitable for cutting a wide variety of materials from thin polyester film to thick card and Foam Board. |

OSCILLATING KNIVES
The Oscillating Knife slices through softer materials cleanly without fraying the edges. Softer materials all present challenges for traditional router or knife tools, but the ‘sawing action’ of the oscillating knife allows it to make cuts without compromising on quality. The thicker the material, the better suited an oscillating knife will be to cut it. Standard blades are available from ¼” (6mm) to 4” (100mm) as well as custom lengths, making them ideal for various foam applications and thicknesses.
